World Boxing Association (WBA) featherweight champion, Mauricio Lara has been stripped of his championship belt.
The Mexican got stripped of his belt after he failed to make the weight for a title fight against Leigh Wood who had made nine-stop limit despite his team’s doubt about the possibility of the fight taking place in Manchester on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Wood’s promoter Eddie Hearn still has high hopes that the bout could still go ahead.
According to the BBC, the British Boxing Board of Control conducted a weight check on Wednesday and raised concerns about how heavy Mauricio was and did not want Lara cutting weight below 9st 2.5lbs.
In the meantime, there are some interesting boxing bouts on Saturday as Lawrence Okolie and Chris Billam-Smith square out in Bournemouth.
