Stakeholders launches 5-year policy to drive women empowerment

The Ministry of Women Affairs and other partners has launched a 5-year strategic framework for the Development Partners Group on Gender (DPGG), to drive women economic empowerment and increase the indices of gender equality in Nigeria.
The policy framework includes; Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) , the Nigeria Country Gender Equality Profile and the Development Partners Group on Gender, DPGG, as well as the Equality Women’s Coordination Strategic framework for 2023-2028.
At the launch in Abuja, the Minister of women Affairs Dame Pauline Tallen, said the program will address policy gaps, recognise cross cutting enablers as Women’s Financial Inclusion and Literacy, Digital Innovation, as well as address issues of Gender-Responsive and Data-Driven Government Processes.
The minister explained that, “The WEE Policy of the Federal Government of Nigeria, builds on the National Gender Policy and other gender-relevant sectoral policies. draws attention to key sectors, where most Nigerian women and girls are employed”.
The World Bank Nigeria Country Director, Mr Shubham Chaudhuri, who spoke virtually, reiterated their commitment towards supporting the Nigerian government in promoting gender equality and women empowerment.
Similarly, Nigeria’s Country Director, ActionAid Mrs Ene Obi noted that the DPGG group has over time grown to
coordinate funding and technical efforts to promote research on GEWE evidenced based planning and high-level advocacy across thematic areas.
“The five pillars focuses on promoting coordination efforts around support for Legal, Policy advocacy on GEWE and also deals with accountability mechanisms for DPGG operations among others”..
“We believe that the Heads of Agencies can support the implementation of this strategic framework by: Nominating and supporting their gender technical to actively participate on the group”. She added
