Stakeholders harps on women empowerment

The empowerment of women, improvement of their social, economic and health status is key for the achievement of sustainable development goals (SDG) by 2030.
The United Nations report shows that global prevalence of child marriage has declined by about 10 per cent in the past five years, and up to 10 million more girls are likely to become mothers by 2030.
Though there has been progress and commitment by countries in the last decades, but much is still needed to be done if the world must be on track to achieve gender equality by 2030.
In Nigeria, Government, NGOs and partners have a lot to do through various empowerment programs, sensitization as well as skill developments.
The founder, Young Mom’s Support initiative, Dr Vivian Sonny-Nsirim, who is an advocate of women sustainability recently launched a book titled the ‘Diary of an African woman ‘ ( exploring the highs and low of womanhood).
Dr Vivian Sonny-Nsirim said the book ex-rays the pressures experienced by women, especially early marriage and home management and advised the incoming administration to give more periority to issues of women for speedy national development.

Dr Sonny-Nsirim and other stakeholders believed that the fastest way to achieve gender equality and remain on track was to attain SDG agenda by 2030 with collaboration with traditional rulers and leaders at all levels to raise awareness against child marriage and out of school children especially at the grassroots.
Violence against Women
Dr Sonny-Nsirim condemned increase in physical, sexual and emotional abuse of women and girls, stating that it’s an impediment to societal and economic growth.
A traditional ruler, Yakannaje of Uke, Karu local government of Nasarawa State Dr Ahmed Abdullahi, advised women to contribute their quota to nation building by promoting unity and educating their children to shun violence and uphold good values.
Effective Womanhood
A high chief, Prof Casmiar Obialom, called on women to thrive to achieve remarkable success in the midst of challenges.
He described women as change makers who play a critical part in creating the envisioned and sustainable future required for all.
