
Plateau Govt signs bill for remuneration for traditional rulers
The Plateau State Government has signed into law the State Traditional Rulers Renumeration bill 2020.
Governor Simon Lalong signed the bill in the presence of some Traditional rulers, representatives of the Chief Judge and the Speaker of the House of Assembly and some Government officials.
He noted the critical role of traditional Rulers as custodians of culture and their contributions to security and peace of the state, stressing the need for their efforts to be rewarded to motivate them.
Governor Lalong assured of immediate implementation, highlighting how significant and impactful the bill would be to the people.
He also urged other states to emulate it.
Earlier, the Plateau State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Chrisantus Ahmadu while giving the synopsis of the bill, said renumeration for the Traditional rulers would be made from the consolidated revenue of the state.
He also said the State Executive Council would also from time to time prescribe allowances and other stipends to the traditional rulers.
The bill stipulates the provision of death benefits to family of deceased traditional rulers which shall be fifty percent of the annual salary.
The bill has a total of 17 clauses.
