IGP directs CPs to handover case files to INEC

The Inspector General of Police, IGP, Usman Alkali Baba has ordered Commissioners of Police, CPs in charge of State Commands to immediately conclude all investigations related to elections.
A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP directed the commissioners to urgently conclude the investigations and forward their case files to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for prosecution.
The IGP says a hitch-free security architecture for all and sundry particularly the electorates, accredited observers, INEC officials and materials, is necessary to enable all citizens exercise their franchise without molestation, harassment or security threats.
The statement says the investigations included all cases of violations against the 2022 Electoral Act during the February 25 presidential and National Assembly electioneering process..
The IGP enjoined Nigerians to collaborate with the Police and other law enforcement agencies for enhanced election security management.
