Football star Gareth Bale to play golf tournament
Former Real Madrid striker Gareth Bale is set to make his debut in a forthcoming golf tournament, popularly called PGA Tour, weeks after retiring from football.
The former Wales captain announced he will compete in February’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in California, in an Instagram post.
Posting a picture of himself on a golf pitch the 33-year-old wrote, “Delighted to announce I will be playing in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am at the start of next month! Let’s go.”
Bale will be among the 156 amateurs participating at Pebble Beach alongside US Open golf champion Matt Fitzpatrick
He announced his retirement from football earlier in January as Wales’ most-capped male player and record men’s goalscorer.
Bale, a five-time Champions League winner with Real Madrid, fell out of favour with the Spanish giants when he was pictured with a banner that read ‘Wales.Golf.Madrid. In that order’ while on international duty with his country in 2019.
