The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, says the decision to support the consensus candidate, Tajudeen Abbas, for the position of Speaker of the 10th House was to harp on legislative gains recorded by the 9th House.
The Speaker made the remark at a meeting of members of the Joint Task-10th House, held in Abuja.
Mr Gbajabiamila who affirmed his loyalty to the party, said his decision does not translate to hatred for other aspirants.
He described Tajuddeen Abbas as a man of tremendous capabilities with the highest sponsorship of bills in the 9th House, having sponsored 74 out of which 21 have been assented to by the President.
He therefore urged the opposition party members-elect to support Abass and Kalu to emerge as the presiding officers.
In his remarks , the APC speaker nominee, Tajuddeen Abbas, urged the members-elect to engage in constructive criticism.
His deputy nominee, Benjamin Kalu , called for synergy amongst the political parties and gave assurance that inequality between the old and the new members would be dissolved.
