COAS tasks officers on professionalism
Lt. General Faruk Yahaya, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has urged officers and soldiers in the Nigerian Army to conduct themselves professionally and ethically during the March 18 elections.
On Tuesday in Abuja, he spoke at the start of the 4th Career Planning and Management Seminar organized by the Army Headquarters Department of Military Secretary. Major General Sani Mohammed, Chief of Training (Army), represented the COAS at the seminar.
According to Lt. General Yahaya, the purpose of the seminar was to raise awareness and sensitize officers to new policies that may have an impact on their careers, as well as to address other important career planning issues for a better understanding.
He charged all the Army Personnel to remain apolitical and professional.
The COAS promised to ensure that the conduct of officers and men during the elections remain professional.
Major General Jamil Abdulsalam, Military Secretary (Army), stated that the annual seminar was held to ensure the efficient management of army officers’ careers.
He expressed grave concern about an upward trend in which annual evaluation reports from formations and units, as well as course reports from most army training institutions, fell short of realistic reporting.
Major General Abdulsalam explained that conduct and discipline remained important considerations in the career planning process, and that gender perspectives had been added to make the seminar broad-ranging, balanced, and context-rich.
The theme of the seminar was “Efficient Human Resource Management: Imperatives for a Professional Nigerian Army in the 21st Century”.
