Biden hails ICC’s war crimes charges against Putin
Vladimir Putin
United States President, Joe Biden has lauded the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) decision to issue an arrest warrant for his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, saying Putin has committed war crimes in Ukraine.
The International Criminal Court accused President Putin of committing war crimes in Ukraine, which President Biden said the Russian leader had clearly done.
Mr Putin is only the third president to be issued with an ICC arrest warrant.
President Biden said the court also held no sway in the US, the issuing of the warrant makes a very strong point.
Biden said that Putin clearly committed war crimes.
The Possibility of Russia’s Vladimir Putin facing trial at the ICC are highly unlikely because Moscow does not recognise the court’s jurisdiction or extradite its nationals.
Russia is not an ICC member country to face war crimes, it has denied the allegations and called the warrants outrageous.
However, the development could affect Mr Putin such as traveling internationally.
Mr Putin is only the third president to be issued with an ICC arrest warrant.
He could now be arrested if he sets foot in any of the 123 member states under ICC.
